Celebrating the life of

Elizabeth Morgan Garnett

July 10, 1969 - August 07, 2024

Elizabeth Morgan Garnett

Elizabeth Morgan Garnett, age 55, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 7th, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia after a long courageous battle with a glioblastoma.

She was born on July 10, 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida to William (Bill) and Mary Garnett, and is survived by her brother John (Tevis) of Savannah, GA; nieces Rachel (Jay) Carpenter, Grace (Ben) Tucker both of Savannah, GA; nephews Wesley (Allison) Garnett of Hoover, AL, and Tim (Savannah) Garnett of LaGrange, GA, and six grandnieces and nephews.

As a child Elizabeth enjoyed family camping and was active in the Girl Scouts where she earned the Silver Award.   She accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord while attending Mandarin Presbyterian Church.  Her challenges in life began in the eighth grade when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which after removal and radiation treatments, affected her speech and other motor skills.   After months of therapy, she was able to finish her education, graduating from Wolfson High School in Jacksonville.   She went on to graduate from the University of North Florida with a B.S. in Health Science and then completed her master's degree in library science from Florida State University in Tallahassee.   After graduation, she worked as a librarian with the Jacksonville Public Library system for 20 years, serving in the Mandarin, South Mandarin, and Pablo Creek branches.

Elizabeth loved reading, music, working puzzles, and playing Scrabble. Close friends knew that she had a witty sense of humor, enjoyed discussing books that she was reading or had read, that cookies and anything chocolate were a way into her heart, and that having a Coke each day was a cure for many things.   In July 2021, while having increased vision problems, she was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, located in the same area as the previous tumor.   She moved to Savannah in October 2021, initially living with family, and then living at Azalealand Nursing Home.  This last year and a half at Azalealand were spent playing bingo, going to butterbean auctions, and any other programs and activities that were offered.   She also greatly looked forward to her weekly visits from Barbara, Edith, and Susan.  Elizabeth loved the countless visits, cards, text messages, phone calls and packages, from her old friends in Jacksonville and her new friends in Savannah.

Much of her daily time was spent listening to sermons from Christ Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville and Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah.  One of the key verses she clung to was Psalm 16:8, " I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken".  She loved attending the Sunday evening services and dinner afterwards at IPC, especially during summers at Point Pleasant.

Special thanks to nurses Irene and Cierra of Hospice Savannah, the staff at Azalealand, her church family at Christ Church Presbyterian and Independent Presbyterian Church for ministering to her so well through this trial.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday August 22 at 2:30pm in Savannah at Independent Presbyterian Church, 207 Bull Street, 31401,  and then in Jacksonville on Saturday, August 31 at 11am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 9794 Old St. Augustine Rd, 32257.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Christ Presbyterian Church, Independent Presbyterian Church, or Hospice Savannah.

- The Deneau Famoly, St Louis, MO

We wish on all of you in the Garnett family God's peace and comfort in Elizabeth's passing. We had you all in our prayers during the difficult period you went through as her health slowly declined over recent years, and yet at the same time we were blessed with her friendliness and eagerness to greet us and show joy in being at church and in fellowship with us. We rejoice that she is in heaven with our Lord.
